Dr. Vartsakis Georgios is an Ophthalmic surgeon who specialized in Sweden in the treatment of Retinal diseases, Vitreoretinal surgery and Cataract.

  • He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina in 2009.
  • He started his training in Ophthalmology in General Hospital of Sparta in 2011.
  • From 2012 to 2016 he continued his training in Ophthalmology according to National Training Program in Ireland and the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, where he worked as a Resident in Galway University Hospital, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin, Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and Beaumont Hospital Dublin.
  • During the period of his training, he completed successfully the postgraduate examinations of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, receiving the Membership title of MRCSI(Ophth).
  • At the same time, through a series of successful examinations he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of the United Kingdom (FRCOphth, London).
  • In 2016, following examinations in the Univeristy of Crete, he qualified as an Ophthalmologist in Greece.
  • In 2016 he participated successfully in the examinations of the European Board of Ophthalmology in Paris, receiving the Fellowship title (FEBO), while scoring the third best performance among all participants from around the world.
  • In 2016 he started working as a Cataract Surgeon in Sweden.
  • In 2017 he was trained in the Medical Retina Department in Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • From 2018 to 2022 he trained and worked as a Consultant – Vitreoretinal Surgeon in the Ophthalmology Department of the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • Dr. Vartsakis holds a Fellowship title from the International Council of Ophthalmology as well as a membership with the European Retinal Society (EURETINA), the European Society of Cataracts and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), the Swedish Ophthalmological Society, the Hellenic Vitreo-Retinal Society and the Hellenic Ophthalmological Society.
  • The summer of 2022 marked his return to Greece and the beginning of his private practice, while maintaining a paid position as a Scientific Associate of the Vitreoretinal Surgery Department in Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. 
  • Dr. Vartsakis sees patients by appointment in Athens EyeCare Clinic in Athens.
